Trump Said Iran Was an 'Imminent Threat' — His Own DNI Wouldn’t Say That Under Oath
The Trump administration’s central justification for its war with Iran — its repeated claim that Tehran posed an “imminent nuclear threat” — came under direct and sustained scrutiny this week during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, where Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard declined multiple opportunities to affirm that the intelligence community supported that assessment.
The exchange, led by Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA), exposed a widening gap between the White House’s public rationale for military action and the intelligence findings presented under oath. While administration officials have consistently framed the conflict as a necessary response to an urgent and immediate danger, Gabbard’s testimony suggested that the underlying intelligence may not align with that characterization.
